Municipal Composer MT

On Monday, September 25th, Merlijn Twaalfhoven was officially appointed Municipal Composer of Zaanstad, for the 2006-2007 cultural season. Merlijn's interpretation of this appointment is a literal one: he will not only be making unusual compositions for the numerous musical ensembles and choirs active in the Zaan region, but he will also be composing pieces for buildings, streets and waterways. This appointment is linked to the {Droom}aandeZaan ({Dream}on theZaan) project that he initiated: a fantastic series of small and great events that will be stimulating everyone around the Zaan region during the course of an entire year. Local musicians, professionals, actors, artists and volunteers will be taking the leading roles in every performance. Performances will be taking place in living rooms, empty factories, on the street and on the water. The main goal of these performances lies in the realisation of as many dreams as possible from the Zaanland area.

People from the Zaanland region with diverse cultural backgrounds will be involved in the musical activities that will lead to a grand and spectacular musical theatre performance in June of 2007: {Droom}ZomerNacht ({Dream}SummerNight).
