Ville passager

Noordermarkt, Amsterdam, 18 september 2004.

On a sunny Saturday in September the tones from Ville Passager surround visitors to the Noorderkerk church and the adjacent farmers market. Brass players are heard coming from the roof of the church, from opened windows and from the other side of the Prinsengracht canal. The woodwinds, from amongst the visitors to the market and in groups, take these sounds over. They play harmonious snatches of music that are so short that the audience keeps hearing the sound from a different angle. The swelling chords move all around the Noordermarkt, giving Ville Passager depth and space.
Actors in the crowd address unsuspecting strangers and send them in the direction of the music.
