Traffique
Uitmarkt, Amsterdam, 27 August 2004
100 young musicians played this 75 part piece, positioned all around Museum Square. The music reverberated beautifully in the splendid acoustics created by the surrounding buildings and the round structure of the Van Gogh Museum. The audience was exceptionally quiet and a silently setting sun lit up the Rijksmuseum after a rainy day.
Several soloists were driven around on delivery bikes, the nearby musicians accompanying them in waves. The 20-strong percussion section resounded through the city and the undulating sounds of the wind section's harmonies caught the crowd unawares.
