Suite for wheelbarrows, pedal bin and orchestra
Mauritspark Leidsche Rijn, 15 August 2004
One Sunday in August a piece was created which everyone could join in with. For several hours musicians ranging from beginners to professionals rehearsed and improvised on an array of instruments (including 10 large dust bins).
Initially, when the audience entered the park, there wasn't much to see. Some singing and sounds floated in from the bushes. Then in the central field, little by little, a composition began to emerge. Each player contributed in their own way, and gradually songs and fragments of classical music merged with slow harmonies and grooves into a palette of sound much larger than that of any normal orchestra.
Visitors were given a bag of refreshments and a fairytale about a princess. Dark rain clouds overhead made the whole afternoon even more exciting.
