Ugarit
Ugarit is the town where 4500 years ago a song was written on a clay tablet. This song is now the oldest piece of music that has been preserved. With the interpretation of assyriologist Theo Krispijn from the University of Leiden, I based the core of this piece on that song. It is sung invisibly for the audience, and 6 recorder players respond from different remote corners of the hall. In addition, the musical material of "The fruit of the day...", clearly performed on stage, forms a solid and tangible reference point.
