Song for the man who forgot his language
Language is what you learned about the world around you. Besides using language to describe to others what we mean, language also explains the world to ourselves. As soon as we learn a language, it continuously speaks to us, and tells us what we see, what happens and what things are for. For example, the word 'bike' does not only tell us about the function of the very thing, it also obstructs any other perception except the plain bike concept. In this way, language overshadows the voice of reality, a sound we listened to so eagerly as a baby, but which can never return again.
What would happen if we forgot our language? How different would the world be if we couldn't describe it? What does the world say when language is silent?
